A mathematical simulation of high temperature induction heating of electroconductive solids
2007
The mathematical model of non-stationary coupled electromagnetic and thermal processes in polarizable and magnetizable axisymmetric electroconductive solids subjected to electromagnetic field generated by external currents is proposed. The processes parameters are connected through heat sources and temperature dependence of material characteristics. The problem is solved by finite element method. The process of induction heating of a finite steel cylinder is considered.
Novel test bed for induction heating power supplies
2006
Power supplies used in induction heating industrial applications must be entirely tested after its manufacturing in order to assure its security and reliability by means of a full power running test of several hours of duration. Nowadays this test is done with a dissipative load which implies a large waste of energy. This paper proposes a new high efficiency test system for induction heating generators. It incorporates a regenerative electronic load which allows an extraordinary improvement of the efficiency of this test with an important economical and ecological benefit.
Automated Calculation Method to Determine the Output Power Based on the Frequency for Induction Heating IGBT Parallel Inverter
2007
The fact that some inverter topologies used in induction heating applications allow the soft switching working operation lets the progressive replacement of the MOSFET with the IGBT in high power inverters. This is due to two main reasons, the former is the IGBT reliability and the latter is the ratio defined as the price of the component per output power. In this article an automated method to determine the output power based on the frequency of an inverter build with different IGBT is described. To carry out this method is necessary to define the power cycle and to develop the calculation process which determines the energy losses in the working conditions of the resonant parallel inverte…
Control circuit design of the L-LC resonant inverter for induction heating
2002
In this article, the frequency variation control strategy for an induction heating L-LC resonant inverter is analyzed. The control consists of three loops, which are analyzed and reduced to their corresponding small-signal block diagrams. From these diagrams, the optimal structure of the compensation network and the design boundaries for first order closed-loop response are derived. The special case of phase limitation is analyzed because it is unstable in open-loop operation. Finally the implementation of the control circuit is described and experimental results are shown.
Influence of Skin Depth on Convective Heat Transfer in Induction Heating
2017
International audience; We investigate convection driven by induction heating of a horizontal fluid layer using direct numerical simulations (DNS). This problem is of particular interest in the context of nuclear severe accident mastering. In a real severe accident, the molten core is subjected to homogeneous internal sources resulting from nuclear disintegrations. This situation is mimicked in the laboratory using induction heating as the internal source. In induction heating, however, heat sources are localized in the skin layer. Consequently, this concentration of heat may modify the flow and wall heat transfer compared to the case of homogeneous internal sources. DNS are carried out for…
Practical Application of Eddy Currents Generated by Wind
2011
When a conductive material is subjected to time-varying magnetic fluxes, eddy (Foucault) currents are generated in it and magnetic field of opposite polarity as the applied one arises. Due to the internal resistance of the conductive material, the eddy currents will be dissipated into heat (Joule heating). Conventional domestic water heaters utilize gas burners or electric resistance heating elements to heat the water in the tank and substantial part of the energy to use for it is wasted. In this paper the origin of electromagnetic induction heat generated by wind turbine in special heat exchange camera connected to water boiler is discussed and material evaluation performed using mathemati…
Simple Lossless Inductive Snubbers-Assisted Series Load Resonant Inverter Operating under ZCS-PDM Scheme for High-Frequency Induction Heating Fixed R…
2022
This paper presents a high-frequency pulse-density-modulated (PDM) soft-switching series load resonant inverter for use in induction heating (IH) fixed roller applications, which is used in copy and printing machines. The proposed simple high-frequency resonant inverter uses an asymmetrical pulse pattern PDM control scheme to achieve complete zero-current soft-switching commutations over a wide output range of input power regulation. Additionally, when the printer toner requires operation in very light load conditions, this causes difficulty in achieving zero-voltage or zero-current soft-switching operations in the IH high-frequency resonant inverters with pulse frequency modulation or puls…
Rapid nanocrystallization of soft-magnetic amorphous alloys using microwave induction heating
2009
The crystallization of Fe73Nb3Cu1Si16B7 alloy during microwave heating was investigated in situ using synchrotron radiation powder diffraction. The phase transformation comprises a primary nanocrystallization stage and a final microcrystallization step. We provide evidence for a strong enhancement of the transformation kinetics. Microwave heating occurs as a result of both ohmic and magnetic losses induced by eddy currents, which defines a volumetric microwave induction heating process. Nanocrystallization is completed within 5 s, while full crystallization is achieved in less than 10 s.

Controlling melt convection—an innovation potential for concerted microstructure evolution of Nd-Fe-B alloys
2005
The solidification process and the resulting microstructure of Nd-Fe-B alloys in consideration of melt convection has been investigated experimentally with a specially designed forced crucible rotation technique. Samples were subjected to well-defined forced rotation and vibration, respectively, during induction heating and solidification. A concerted microstructure evolution is possible by enhancement or suppression of the melt convection. As a result, the microstructure pattern, mainly the volume fraction of the soft magnetic a-Fe phase, vary strongly with the strength of the internal flow motion. A distinct reduction of the a-Fe volume fraction in samples with strong melt rotation was ob…
